Department of Public Health of State University of Bangladesh and LABAiD celebrated ‘World Health Day, 2017’ on 8th April, through a series of programs including Human Chain and a Seminar on the awareness of Depression. To enlighten the community Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Head, Department of Public Health, SUB inaugurated the human chain. In the seminar on “Depression-Let’s Talk” Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Dr. M Shahjahan, Vice Chancellor (in charge), SUB was in chair. Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman Khan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Child Adolescent and Family Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health, ACAMH Fellow in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (London) delivered the keynote paper in this seminar. Prof. Dr Nawzia Yasmin offered the welcome speech. Among others were Dr. M. Mushtuq Husain, Technical Advisor, IMPACT Fellowship Program, IEDCR; Mainuddin Ahmed Mamun, Secretary, Bangladesh Consumer Right Society; Dr. Fahmida Tofayel, Scientist, icddrb; Professor Dr. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Director, Research and International Collaboration, SUB; Prof. Mahmudur Rahman, Ex-Director, NIPSOM; and Heads of different departments.
In the key note paper Dr. Zillur Rahman briefly described about Depression- A Global Crisis, Burden of depression in Bangladesh, Treatment gap of Depression, Clinical Depression, Depression in college and university students, Consequence of untreated depression, Treatment and Prevention of Depression. All the faculty members and students of Department of Public Health and other disciplines were present in the seminar.
