A Certificate Course on “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” was held at State University of Bangladesh(SUB) organized by the department of Public Health from 1st October to 3rd October, 2018.The resource person was renowned reproductive health epidemiologist Dr.Halida Hanum Akhter who is also an Adjunct faculty of Dept of Public Health, SUB. Dr Halida has over 30 years of national and international experience. She is a medical graduate with post- graduation in OB/GYN and has obtained MPH and Dr.PH from Johns Hopkins University following which, as a Rockefeller Fellow, she served as Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer (EIS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta. She was the Chief of Party-USAID-DFID NGO Health Service Delivery Project and Senior Country Director, PATHFINDER INTERNATIONAL. She is currently working as Senior Associate in the Department of International Health, Division of Human Nutrition, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. Sexual and reproductive health and rights or SRHR is an interpretation of human rights applied to sexuality and reproduction. It is a combination of sexual health, sexual rights, reproductive health and reproductive rights . In the concept of SRHR, these four fields are treated as separate but inherently intertwined. Good sexual and reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system. It implies that people are able to have a satisfying and safe sex life, the capability to reproduce, and the freedom to decide if, when, and how often to do so. The participants of this course were from well reputed Organizations like Centre for Rehabilitations of the Paralyzed (CRP), International Organization of Migrations (IOM), Lab aid Group and Light House and Samorita Medical College Hospital. There was also a foreign participant in this course from Uganda. After successful completion of three days on 3 rd October, 2018, a certificate giving ceremony was held with the honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Sayeed Salam, Registrar, Prof. Maj. Gen. Mohammad Quamruzzaman (Retd.), Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Head, Ms Nuhad Raisa Seoty, faculty member, Dept. of Public Health. Prof Dr Nawzia thanked the resource person and the participants and concluded the session.
