A five member team of SUB led by Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Vice President, Board of Trustees (BoT); Professor Dr. S.M.A. Faiz, Former Vice Chancellor University of Dhaka, Advisor, State University of Bangladesh; Prof. M. A. Rashid, Honorary Advisor, Department of Pharmacy and Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Head, Department of Public Health visited Kathmandu, Nepal from 24th March to 27th March, 2017. The “Golden Decade of SUB in Nepal” was celebrated by organizing a whole day program on March 25, 2017 in Hotel Woodland, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, Nepal. In the morning session “Graduate Certificate Awarding Ceremony” was held with Prof. Dr S.M.A. Faiz, Advisor, State University of Bangladesh in the chair. Prof. Dr. Tirth Raj Khaniya, Vice Chancellor, Tribhuvan University, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Vice President, BOT was the special guest, while Prof. Dr. M A Rashid, Advisor, Department of Pharmacy, State University of Bangladesh was present as Guest of Honor. Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Head, Department of Public Health, SUB delivered the inaugural speech. SUB awarded a total of sixteen (16) original certificates to Nepali Alumni.
In the afternoon session SUB organized an international seminar on ‘Higher Education in Developing Countries’ with Prof. Dr S.M.A. Faiz, Advisor, SUB in the chair. H.E. Mrs. Mashfee Binte Shams, Ambassador, Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Nepal graced the program as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Head, Department of Public Health, SUB delivered the key note speech. In the key note paper Professor Yasmin briefly described about longstanding problems of Higher Education in Developing Countries; Present scenario; Community expectation/perception; Government as supervisor; Some governance problems; Science and the developing world; General education; Strength of SUB to solve the obstacles to higher education; How to handle the individual need of student? And the future plan of SUB. A good number of Nepali alumni from SUB attended the program. A 13 member Alumni Association of SUB Nepal chapter was also formed in the program.
