State University of Bangladesh celebrated ‘World No Tobacco Day’

Every year, the World Health Organization and global partners observe ‘World No Tobacco Day’ (WNTD) on 31 May. But this year, our country celebrated the Day on 20 June. The annual campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use. The focus of ‘World No Tobacco Day’ 2019 was on ‘Tobacco and Lung Health.’ State University of Bangladesh participated in the lively rally of ‘World No Tobacco Day ‘which was organized by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 20 June, 2019. Professor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Nuhad Raisa Seoty and Dr. Nazmur Rahman Sajib of Department of Public Health joined the colorful rally holding the banner saying ‘তামাকে হয় ফুসফুস ক্ষয়, সুস্বাস্থ্য কাম্য, তামাক নয়’. Along with them, the students of Departments of Public Health, English and Business Studies participated in the rally with placards. The banners and placards demonstrated the life-threatening effects of tobacco and spread the message that we want Tobacco-free Bangladesh by 2040. The rally started from the Central Shaheed Minar and ended in front of the National Museum. A Seminar was held in the National Museum Auditorium after the rally. Mr. Zahid Maleque MP, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was the Chief Guest and Md. Ashadul Islam, Secretary, Health Service Division was the Chairperson of the Seminar. The day was observed by many organizations with various programs which demonstrated how individuals can contribute to make a sustainable, tobacco-free world, by committing to never taking up tobacco products.
