On Saturday, 4 February, 2017 a seminar on ‘Universal Health Coverage and Challenges’ was organized by Department of Public Health of State University of Bangladesh with Major General (Retd.) Dr. M. Shahjahan, Acting Vice Chancellor, State University of Bangladesh in Chair. Md. Ashadul Islam, Additional Secretary and Director General of Health Economics Unit, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare delivered the keynote paper in this seminar. Prof. Dr Nawzia Yasmin, Professor  & Head, Department of Public Health, SUB offered welcome speech. Among the honored guests were Dr. Halida H. Akhter, COP, NHSDP. USAID-DFID NGO Health Service Delivery Project; Professor Dr. Harun-Ar-Rashid, Director, Research and International Collaboration, SUB; Prof. Jahangir Kabir, Chief Consultant & Head of the Dept. of Urology, LABAiD Specialized Hospital; Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel, Country Representative, Engender Health; Professor Dr. Abdul Awwal Biswas, Dept. of Anthropology, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet and Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Talukder, Professor ( Curriculum development & Evaluation), Centre for Medical Education(CME). In the keynote paper MD. Ashadul Islam briefly mentioned Why Universal Health Coverage is important? Health system in Bangladesh; National health services; Transition and Challenges of Health sector in Bangladesh; What Govt. is doing – Policy and program response; Implementation of health care financing system and 10 leading causes for inefficiency. Faculty members and students of State University of Bangladesh and participants from Engender Health, State College of Health Sciences, RTM International, Shakti Foundation, Abt Associates Inc. were also present at the seminar.
