Prof. Dr. Shaker Ahmed
Professor, Department of Business Studies
Shaker Ahmed with about 40 years of experience, obtained Ph D in Economics in 1981 and is currently working as professor in the department of Business Studies, State University of Bangladesh (SUB). Before joining SUB, he worked at Dhaka University in the department of Tourism and Hospitality Management as Chairman and Professor and in the department of Management as Professor. For a brief period of about 3 years, he worked at Chittagong University in the department of Economics. His main job has been to conduct classroom lectures and seminars, supervise research students, conduct examinations, undertake research and consulting on socio-economic realities of Bangladesh and other developing countries. Prof Ahmed was also the part-time faculty in a number of private universities in Dhaka. He was also associated with university/department administration. He served as the convener, Curriculum Development Committee of National University, Dhaka University, and NCTVTR. In 2003-04 he was a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar at Cornell University, Ithaca, USA.
Dr. Ahmed has been associated with research and consultancy activities as free-lancer since 1986 for World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Union, USAID, UNDP, DANIDA, CIDA, etc. So far, he has completed more than 100 research and consultancy works on various issues like Project Preparation, Implementation and Management; Monitoring and Evaluations; Feasibility Studies and Cost Benefit Analysis; Financial Management and Social Impact Assessment; Institutional Development, Training and Capacity Building; Employment, Income and Poverty Analysis; Livelihood Analysis; Formulation Studies and Proposal Development, etc in various positions including Team Leader both at home and abroad. He has the experience of working in diversified sectors such as energy and road infrastructure development; agriculture, food security and rural development; water supply, wastewater, and solid waste management; water resources development, irrigation, flood control and disaster management; Women in Development, health and family planning, etc. So far, he completed 12 overseas consultancy assignments in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
Professor Ahmed has to his credit 24 research-based articles. He participated in many seminars and conferences both at home and abroad. He has also been associated with several professional organizations. He traveled many countries: Bangladesh, USA, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Egypt, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Iran, UK, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, etc.
