Department of Dental Technology

Department of Dental Technology is a field where we deals with all kinds of Oral & Dental diseases as well as aesthesis of a patient. Now a days, Orthodontic treatment is very popular all over the world, where we can change the total shape of the face of a patient. Through which he or she can enjoy a new physical & social status. Other than that crowding, spacing, dental caries, cleft lip, cleft palate, calculus, periodontal diseases, fracture of the jaw, oral tumor, bad oral hygiene all these can be treated by dental personals.
Course Dental Technology, Aims & Objectives:
  1. To develop & ensure the standard and quality of medical Technology education in Bangladesh.
  2. To provide studies of Medical Science & Technology education in laboratory & Dental courses to produce highly skilled Medical Technologists of international standard.
  3. To provide quality & qualified Medical Technologists with a view to ensuring quality diagnostic services, enabling the doctors to diagnose the diseases properly and in time a prime necessity and really important indeed.
  4. To help meet the requirements of large number of quality Technologists in Govt, non-govt, hospitals, diagnostics centers & private Dental clinics of the country.
  5. To help produce quality & qualified Medical Technologists, able and fit to work abroad-in Middle East & Western countries and earn huge foreign currency.
  6. To help carry out research work in diseases prevalent in the country, as also on preventable diseases, eg. Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS etc.
  7. To help reduce unemployment of the educated youths and make them worth & skilled manpower.
  8. To help attain “Health for all” at an earlier date.  

 
Admission Requirements:

Candidates passing S.S.C (Sc) and H.S.C (Sc) or equivalent examinations having at least combined G.P.A score-5.0 in S.S.C. Plus H.S.C exams will be considered eligible for admission B.Sc. in Health Technology (Dental) course. Candidates passing the three years Diploma courses under the ‘State Medical Faculty of Bangladesh’ or from abroad will also be eligible for admission.

 
Course structure and duration:

The course will be of four years duration. The total period is divided into 4 parts- 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year & 4th year. In each of 1st 3 years there will be 40 weeks (Teaching/Learning hours: 900-1200 hours/ year) of teaching and learning at the end of which there will be a year final examination. Supplementary examinations will be held (after) 6 months of the year final examination. The 4th year: the candidate on completion of 3rd year course will have to undergo ‘1year in course training’ in any Govt. or Private Medical/ Dental College/ Hospital, Combined Military Hospital, any Post Graduate Medical Institute, well- recognized hospital with requisite facilities for training or in the same institute where the course in being run and will have to submit a satisfactory performance and attendance (75%) certificate from the college/ institute wherefrom training was received, to the controller of Examinations, University of Dhaka, through the Principal, where the student studied.
