Message From Head of the Department
It is my pleasure to welcome you in the Department of Food Engineering & Technology, which is the only of its kind in the private sector. At present the Department offers 4 years B.Sc degree in Food Engineering & Technology as approved by the UGC. We are about to start the MS program in Food Engineering & Technology. Food Engineering is a broad scientific field that deals with the production and distribution of food including agriculture, fisheries and related services is the largest and most important economic activity in the world. Our main objective is to produce safe foods to protect health. This requires strict quality assurance program including good manufacturing practices, food laws, food safety as well as global certification such as HACCP and ISO. This will encourage awareness and support government program to control and prevent adulteration, which is causing illness (e.g. cancer, liver cirrhosis, kidney stones etc) to the millions of our people by indiscriminate use of harmful chemicals. Recently High Court issue a directive to establish separate Food Court & appoint Food Specialist and Instructor in every district of Bangladesh by July 2010 (info: Daily Prothom Alo, 02 June 2009). In addition Bangladesh Bank earmarked tk. 1500 crores to promote agro-processing industry. To meet shortage of technically qualified Food Technologist/ Food Engineers, the Department offers unique opportunities to the graduates/masters for future employment. |
