DEPT. OF PUBLIC HEALTH CELEBRATES BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, 2008.

On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month October 2008, the Department of Public Health, SUB organized a special presentation on “Breast Cancer Awareness” by Dr Nawzia Yasmin, Head and Academic Program Director, Department of Public Health, SUB on 21st October, 2008 at 11.00 A.M. at Room No. 305. All female faculty members and female students attended the Presentation. In her presentation, Dr Nawzia Yasmin highlighted the preventive aspects, common kinds of breast cancer, fast facts as causes of death for women, clinical features of breast cancer, risk factors, ways to lower the risk of breast cancer, screening, helping others in community, treatment and clinical trials. In terms of prevention, Dr Yasmin emphasized on controlling weight by means of physical exercise, knowing family history of breast cancer, finding out the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy, banning alcohol drinking, self-examinations and getting screened for breast cancer regularly. A lively discussion followed the presentation. The session ended with distributing pink ribbons among the participants.
