Seminar on “Urban Morphology of Dhaka” Organized by State University of Bangladesh.

Thursday, February 12, 2009: The State University of Bangladesh organized a seminar on “Urban Morphology of Dhaka” on Thursday, 12th February 2009. Held at the auditorium of the University Campus the seminar was attended by a large number of academics, including SUB faculty, senior students and environment enthusiasts.
Prof Nazrul Isalam, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Qazi Azizul Mowla, Department of Architecture BUET & Advisor, Department of Architecture of the SUB presented the keynote paper. The paper highlighted the importance of a balanced growth of a city and the role of architects and management in ensuring such a growth. He highlighted the risk of an inconsistent growth that may choke a city to death.
Prof Nazrul Islam, a renowned planner besides being chair of the UGC, delved on his experience as a planner and the urgent tasks that we all have in our hand to save this city of ours.
Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Vice President of the Board of Governors talked about the role of a university in relation to relevant education and promised his effort to make SUB very relevant to the society. In his closing speech Prof IG Chowdhury Vice Chancellor of the University thanked the participants for their valuable input to this important topic that is drawing much national attention and is also a concern to all of us, academics, planners and civil society.
Other members who spoke on the occasion include Prof. A Y M Ekram-ud-Daulah, Registrar, State University of Bangladesh and Mr.Akmal Hakim, Asst. Prof & Head, Architecture Department, State University of Bangladesh. |
