A packed auditorium at the State University of Bangladesh this morning (5/07/2010) heard Mr. Victor Seedman, Vice Principal of London Trinity College, give a guest lecture on Higher Education in England. The speaker outlined the history of HE and detailed recent developments in the sector, including the funding constraints faced by universities in England as a result of the current austerity regime there. He expressed his opinion that private sector education ... earning the country UKPB billion per annum ... was likely to take on a more prominent role in the future as U.K. universities look to admit more overseas students and open campuses abroad. The growth of the market for private sector education in recent years has given Britain an opportunity to share her heritage and develop a multicultural awareness second to none in the world. For independent colleges such as London Trinity, Mr. Victor explained, the most important tasks are quality assurance and, given the costs to overseas students of living in London, making sure that they are able to find reasonably-priced accommodation, support in finding work and help with any problems they may have settling into a new and unfamiliar environment.

London Trinity College, with a new state-of-the-art campus set to open very soon close to East London mosque and within walking distance of the business and banking centre of the City of London, is one of the largest colleges in East London. It is fully accredited by the British Accreditation Council and listed on the UK Border Agency register as a trusted sponsor (Grade A) for Tier 4 General Education. New students are given a free weekly English language class to support their academic learning there.

The meeting was chaired by Major General (Rtd.) Dr. M Shahjahan, Advisor, School of Health Sciences, SUB & was conducted by Prof. AYM Ekram-Ud-Daulah, Registrar, SUB.
