Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam Khan

Zahirul Islam Khan is an enthusiastic researcher committed to lifelong learning. He has got his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) (14th batch) and Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm.) Degrees from the Department of Pharmacy, State University of Bangladesh (SUB). Afterwards, he joined a Private Company and worked for a couple of years where several promotion made him an Assistant Manager in International Business Development sector. He then further started studying his PhD in the Department of Health Technology and Informatics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (QS Rank # 66), Hong Kong. He is experienced with molecular cancer research and its canonical pathways of carcinogenesis. His current research project is “Roles of autophagy-modulating long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and metabolic proteins in colorectal cancer progression and management”. He is familiar with techniques including human cell culture, gel-electrophoresis, RNA interference, gene knock down/knock in, qPCR, western blot, confocal microscopy, ingenuity pathway analysis, proteomics analysis, immuno-histochemistry, cell proliferation, viability and migration, and handling of mice. Currently he is working as Research Associate, Department of Health Technology and Informatics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and He will join as Post-doctoral Fellowship from July, 2021. His research interests include:
- Translational research- Biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of cancer
- Pathways- Autophagy, apoptosis, TGF-B pathways, EMT, MAPK, STAT, PI3K, and mTOR pathways
- Cancer Management- Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy or combination of chemo-radiotherapy.
