Prof. Dr. Anwar Ul Islam

Professor Dr. Md Anwar Ul Islam has recently joined the Department of Pharmacy in State University of Bangladesh (SUB) after his retirement from University of Rajshahi.
Prof. Islam has obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) and Master of Pharmacy Degrees from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Nagpur, India. His PhD research was focused on pharmaceutical dispersion system, emulsion, suspension and nanoparticles system and their stability prediction by electro- kinetical parameters. After successful completion of his PhD research, he came back to Bangladesh and worked in two renowned pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh. Then he joined in the newly established Department of Pharmacy, University of Rajshahi as an Assistant Professor and served there for more than 30 years holding different academic and administrative positions. He devoted himself to build up the newly established Department of Pharmacy. He was elected Dean of Science Faculty and elected senate member for two terms. In this tenure he also served as a Professor in Bangladesh Open University with an intention to get himself involved in research activities on open idea generated by general people of the country.
Dr. Islam worked as a Post doc Commonwealth fellow in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He has also been awarded with JSPS fellowship and carried out his research in Nagoya University. Dr. Islam’s research activities are particularly focused on pharmaceutical technology and bioactive compounds of microbial origin. His research interests also includes bioassay directed isolation, purification and identification of antibacterial metabolites from plant and microbes. So far he has published more than 135 papers in reputed peer reviewed international and national journals and attended several international conferences in India, Pakistan, USA, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, Turkey, Philippines. He has supervised the research projects and thesis of many Master’s students and few PhD research fellows. His research groups isolated some novel microbial sp. like Streptomyces bangladeshensis and submitted many sequences to Gen bank in USA.
He has been serving as a Vice-President of Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society and as a member of Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Journal.
